About Us |
The Barton LegacyThe Society has the great good fortune to be the recipient of a wonderful legacy from Reg Saville in the form of Barton, his home for many years and that of his grandparents before him.
However, that leaves the Society in the position of being asset rich but cash poor and so we need to plan now both for annual expenditure and maintenance relating to Barton, and for any unexpected costs, rather than find ourselves desperately trying to come up with a solution against the clock when ‘the worst’ happens. The Barton Legacy FundThat is why the Society has created a Barton Legacy Fund that will be kept totally separate from the day-to-day running costs of the Museum and the Society itself.
We are appealing to the membership and friends of the Society for interest-free loans, or out-right gifts, which will be used solely and exclusively to enable the Society to supplement Reg’s fantastic generosity by caring for Barton without the expense of caring for Barton jeopardising the future of the Society itself. All contributors to the Barton Legacy Fund will receive a financial review of the fund following each Annual General Meeting of the Society, giving details of how much remains in the fund and the use to which outgoings have been put. Any loan will be re-payable on demand within a maximum of six-months notice [to enable the Society to make suitable arrangements for the money to be made available]. In the event that at some time in the future Barton may be sold, all loans still held in the Barton Legacy Fund will be repaid in full on completion of the sale. Any out-right gift, or any loan, will be eligible for Gift Aid against income tax if the donor does in fact pay income tax.
